Romans 5: 1-11 pretty much sums up my definition of the amazingness that is God's love!
I can't even express it in better words than amazingness....good on you, English teacher! But it has just struck me... while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. It takes a while for the full impact of that to hit.
While we were still sinners... meaning before we knew God, before we told him we believed in him. And even more, while were still his enemy!
While we despised God, and rejected him through our actions and words, he still loved us enough to send his son to die for us!
How many people in our lives would we willingly die for? There are probably not many that, when it really came down to it, we would willing die for. Our family, our close friends. The people we love and who love us back.
What about our enemies. The people who go out of their way to be mean to us and those around them, who torment cats and abuse children, who murder...someone like Hitler. How many of us would die to save their lives? I can't say I would. It's hard enough to stick up for someone being picked on by a bully, let alone if your life was at risk.
But Christ died for us while we were STILL sinners. While we were his enemies, he took the nails, he took the sin, he took the punishment. Though we scorned him and despised him, he loved us. He died for us. Freely.
What amazing, amazing, amazing love!
